Missing ‘Update Services’ in Windows Server Update Services console

A few times now (on different servers and at different organizations) we’ve had the WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) console crash on us, then when we try to close/reopen all the options are gone. This happens most frequently when you’re cleaning up updates or trying to view the list of synchronizations.
After the crash the console will open just fine but you can’t do anything except see the ‘options’ heading in the console. We even rebooted the server but the problem persists.
Thankfully, the fix is pretty easy in most cases:

Close all your MMC windows
Delete the following file: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC\wsus and/or C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC\mmc
Open the WSUS console and it should be working properly
